Public Swimming Beaches at Chautauqua
Chautauqua Institution has four public swimming beaches ; all are open through Aug. 24 . Children’s Beach , located near the Miller Bell Tower, provides a shallow swimming area and beach for youth and families to play and picnic. Pier Beach , adjacent to Children’s Beach, is an adult, deep-water swimming area. Heinz Beach, located on South Lake Drive, is one of two large swimming areas and includes a floating raft. University Beach, on North Lake Drive, is the second of two large swimming areas and includes a floating raft as well as an outdoor shower. All beaches have bathroom facilities.
Water depth does not allow for diving at any of Chautauqua’s beaches. No flotation devices or pets are allowed. Deep-end tests must be passed by children wanting to swim in the deeper water. Small children must be accompanied by an adult (age 18 or over). Swimming is permitted only when lifeguards are on duty, during these posted hours: Mon.-Sat. 10 AM -6 PM (Children’s, Pier, Heinz), 11 AM -6 PM (University). Sun. 12-6 PM (all beaches). Remember, there are no gate fees at Chautauqua Institution on Sundays ! See you at the beach!
