The first announcement concerning the closing of Chautauqua Lake Central
School will be made between 6:00 and 6:15 a.m. and
thereafter according to station policy. The lack of an announcement
by 6:15 a.m. indicates that the local schools will be open as usual.
Once schools are in session, they will not be closed during the
day if adverse weather conditions develop.
The reason for not closing the school after the school day has started
is that many parents work away from home and do not have regular arrangements
for taking care of small children if they are dismissed early during
the day. There definitely will not be any early dismissals of Chautauqua
Lake Central School facilities in these cases.
However, in case of inclement weather, after school and evening activities
may be cancelled. A decision will be made no later than 2 p.m. and
local radio stations will be notified. When after school and evening
activities are cancelled, ALL students must go home
directly after regular dismissal. There will be NO late
buses.
If parents wish to pick up students during the day at any time throughout
the entire school year, it will be necessary for the parent or the adult
acting on behalf of the parent to identify himself to the satisfaction
of the building principal. Students will not be released to unauthorized
students, neighbors, friends, or relatives without specific written authorization
granted by the student's parent or guardian. This stipulation is at the
direction of the Board of Education for the protection of all concerned,
especially the students.
If a parent or guardian feels that weather conditions in their immediate
area of the school district warrant keeping small children at home, this
is their decision. The decision concerning whether or not schools will
be open or closed must be based on general district-wide conditions.
The closing of the local school will automatically eliminate transportation
to all other schools throughout Western New York that are normally served
by Chautauqua Lake District transportation. BOCES programming at Chautauqua
Lake Central School District will also be cancelled when the school district
closes.
There will be no interscholastic athletic sports practice, games, or
Community Education classes on snow days. If it is not safe to be out
for a regular day of school, the school district will not sponsor or
conduct any school-related activities or functions on such days.
