Dear Parents and Students,

At the high school students and faculty have enjoyed a very busy winter quarter.  It has been jammed packed with energy, activities, spirit, hard work and fun.  As we move into the last quarter of this school year, I would like to recognize a few of our students’ accomplishments and enlist your continued support as we move into the fourth and final quarter of the school year.

First, a big congratulation goes to the cast, crew, pit musicians, and advisors of our musical, Guys and Dolls.  It was outstanding entertainment.  Everybody worked together as a team and put forth a tremendous effort to make the musical a success.  It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to display their talent and entertain friends and family.  Additionally, congratulations go to the Student Administration for organizing the Battle of the Classes during Spirit Week.  This activity took a lot of time and planning on their part to make it a resounding success.  Competition among the classes was spirited but friendly.  The classes raised $700 in the penny war, which has been donated to Westfield Community Kitchen.  Also, a big thank you goes to the Student Health Advisory Committee for scheduling school and community speakers for Wellness Day and our students for their enthusiastic participation in the events and workshops.

On the academic front this quarter, all students have met with their counselors to select classes for the coming school year.  As you talk to your children about this, please encourage them to challenge themselves by enrolling in our college-credit offerings, internships, pre-engineering classes, and a wide variety of electives.  By taking rigorous courses, your high school student will be better prepared for education, training, and life beyond CLCS.

Also, as we start our final quarter of school, please encourage your student to make that final push to the end of the year to ensure success.  Teachers are available after school in Help Lab in the high school library every Tuesday and Wednesday.  If you have questions about your student’s work, please contact your student’s teacher by phone or email.  We look forward to a great final quarter of this school year.  I thank you for your continued support in all we do at CLCS.

High School Attendance

Parents need to be aware that when their student reaches the high school level  good attendance is more important than ever.  Too many absences can result in the loss of credit for a course which is needed to receive a diploma. Students taking 10 week courses may only have 7 absences, excused or unexcused, and semester courses allow 14 absences before credit will be lost.

Any student planning on missing school for a planned vacation or educational trip needs to let the high school office know in writing in advance.  If advance notice is received, the absences will be excused and work may be done in advance or made up upon return according to the teachers guidelines.  If absences are considered unexcused, make up work may not be allowed.

Parking Permits

Students that wish to drive to school must have a parking permit on their vehicle.  Applications are in the high school office and may be picked up before school starts.  Priority will be given to Juniors and Seniors.  If you have a parking sticker from last year, you must get an updated one for this school year.

Grab and Go Breakfast

We will be trying something new this year.  For high school students that eat breakfast at school there will be a Grab and Go breakfast set up in the high school hall.  This will eliminate the need for high school students to go to the cafeteria for breakfast.  Students no longer need to be late to class because of breakfast.
