Energy-Saving Measures Cut Costs
Saving fuel in order to save money is being accomplished through several changes at Chautauqua Lake Central School.
Some changes were instituted by the athletic departments from Chautauqua and Cattaraugus County schools, including Chautauqua Lake. By vote of the Chautauqua County Athletic Association (CCAA), the following provisions are being implemented:
- Cut four games from the modified basketball schedule
- One away scrimmage per season
- Tri-meets for track
In addition, CLCS cheerleaders traveling to some away contests now share a bus with basketball players.
The temperature in occupied rooms has been lowered to 70º; the temperature in unoccupied rooms is now maintained at 65º. To minimize energy consumption we have also reduced the times when larger spaces — such as the Auditorium and gyms — are in use.
Exterior security lighting has also been limited this school year.
Such energy-saving measures were first instituted during Summer 2005, when the geothermal air conditioning was set several degrees higher than in the past, and lights were turned off in most corridors.
All departments continue to look at ways to reduce fuel use and cut costs.
