Secondary School Adopts Year-Long A/B Schedule
The Chautauqua Lake secondary school team reminds grade 9-12 students and their parents or guardians that we are moving to a year-long A/B schedule beginning at the start of school.
The scheduling change was made in response to the NYS Board of Regents recently adopted plan that eliminates January Regents exams. As a result of this change, our secondary school will no longer use a semestered block schedule as previously practiced.
After analyzing and researching multiple scheduling concepts, the secondary team concluded that an A/B year-long schedule is the best option for our students. The adoption of the new schedule has many benefits including allowing us to continue to offer a variety of elective, Advance Placement, and college credit courses. In addition, the new schedule increases the overall amount of instructional time provided to our students.
The secondary faculty and staff have worked throughout the spring and the summer to ensure that we are properly prepared for the schedule change.

Three Area Districts Form Partnership To Enhance Choices
Chautauqua Lake Central School District has partnered with both Ripley Central School District and Westfield Academy and Central School District to expand educational opportunities for students in all three districts.
As outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding, these districts will open their doors to each other’s students in grades 9-12 to take courses and participate in programs outside of their home school. This is an effort by all three districts to develop and enhance a regional approach to public education.
While students will remain enrolled in their local school districts for core academic programming, extracurricular programs and athletic programs, they will have the opportunity to consider electives and Advanced Placement courses not offered in their home schools.
Each parent’s and student’s decision to participate is voluntary and requires administrative approval of the participating districts. For more information, contact CLCS Secondary School Principal Josh Liddell, (716) 753-5882.
