ASSET consortium of schools revisits regional solutions to current challenges

Representatives of the four ASSET school districts
  • Brocton Central School District
  • Chautauqua Lake Central School District
  • Ripley Central School District
  • Westfield Academy & Central School District
recently convened to discuss the current state of public education and to revisit the potential of shared collaborations.  As a result of a February 12 joint meeting of the four boards of education, the districts have established an Ad Hoc Leadership Team comprised of two board members and the superintendent from each school district.  This Leadership Team will meet regularly to begin the process of engaging the school communities to develop a plan for a regional approach to education.

At the first meeting of the Leadership Team on March 22, 2011, team members agreed that the Leadership Team as a whole will make recommendations to the respective schools boards for consideration.  Each district will create an Advisory Committee to gather and share information within that district. As communication pathways are structured, additional subcommittees may develop.

The group plans to fully develop the central vision and mission of the partnership, with a focus on a regional education system.  This may include such approaches as distance learning, specialized school programs and enhanced college connections.  One area of study that may impact each district in the 2011-12 school year is shared athletics.

Transportation is a second area of immediate focus, as the districts would like to implement a transportation backbone that can support future initiatives.

Several Leadership Team members are researching regional high schools in other states.

The ASSET Leadership Team is meeting every two weeks, rotating from district to district each time.  Plans to form Advisory Committees will be announced soon.
