Secondary Principal Rachel Curtin is proud to announce the following athletic awards for the 2020-21 school year. These awards have been voted on by our Chautauqua Lake coaches:
CLCS Senior Athlete of the Year Award
This award recognizes student-athletes who have made a significant impact on Chautauqua Lake athletics during their high school career. They display an advanced level of athletic skills and are committed in setting challenging goals for their team, as well as themselves. These student-athletes are intrinsically driven to succeed while in their pursuit of team goals. This year's Senior Athlete of the Year Award goes to Nate Engdahl and Lexi Jacobson.
CLCS Senior Sportsmanship Award
This award recognizes the student-athletes that best exemplify the principals of fair play, taking defeat with dignity, achieving victory with grace and treating competitors with respect. They consistently display good character and accept the responsibility as a role model for others - both on and off the field. The award winners this year are Zachary Wolcott and Haley Roush.
CLCS Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year
This award recognizes student-athletes who have achieved the difficult combination of excellence both in the classroom and on the playing field. They balance the demands of schoolwork, athletics, and other commitments to give sufficient time and energy to all activities. Their high academic achievement and athletic success is a model of what the CLCS student-athlete strives to be. This year's Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year Award goes to Luke Waters and Amelia Brown.
Calvin Cederquist CLCS Coach of the Year Award
Calvin Cederquist, legendary CCS and CLCS track and field coach, was an excellent leader on and off the track as well as the classroom. In addition to winning numerous division, section, and state championships, Coach Cederquist's student-athletes were consistently recognized for their outstanding sportsmanship and academic excellence. This award acknowledges a CLCS coach who best exemplifies these same characteristics. Mrs. Curtin is proud to recognize Coach Joanne Meadows.
Project Play WNY Multi-Sport Student Athlete Award
Students nominated for this award have demonstrated a commitment to their teams, served as positive and relatable role models, succeeded in the classroom by maintaining academic eligibility throughout their high school careers, made a positive difference to the lives of youth at their school and in the wider community, showed resilience and determination during challenging situations, found and amplified their voice through sports participation, graduated during the 2020-21 school year and participated in three scholastic sports. This year's award recipients are Nate Engdahl and Haley Roush.
