Chautauqua Lake Partners with Cross Training Athletics
A major priority of Chautauqua Lake’s athletic philosophy is: “To provide the best opportunities for our student-athletes to excel in teamwork, sportsmanship, self-discipline, and moral character while actively developing their athletic talents to the best of their abilities.”
In an effort to support our coaches in cultivating a culture of character, we are partnering with Cross Training Athletics (CTA). CTA is a 10-week program that provides a vision and a plan to build a character culture within athletic programs.
Implementing CTA will support our district in our mission to build the complete athlete. This season was “kicked off” by Mike Masters, CTA Director, who delivered an in-person motivational talk on Tuesday, August 31, about leadership to all our fall athletes.
Throughout the season, there will be a character word of the week. Each word is introduced through an inspirational video ranging from 7-11 minutes in length. Click here to watch the inspirational video for the character word loyalty. As the week progresses, coaches can use the D.A.R.T. process in order to facilitate discussion on the character word and promote the CTA culture of character.
Participating coaches are provided with certificates each week. These certificates are given to athletes who best exemplified the character word of the week. Additionally, every Thursday during the season, coaches will send in nominations. From those nominated, two athletes will receive a trophy for the Chautauqua Lake CTA "Athlete of the Week." Team and district certificate winner information will be displayed on a bulletin board within the school building and featured on the announcements.
The CTA program also includes two game visits from CTA directors. At each game attended by the CTA directors, an athlete from both teams will be rewarded the CTA “Player of the Game” award. At the end of the season, an athlete from each team will be awarded the "CTA Athlete of the Year" for their respective sports programs.
