The Board of Education recently approved the 2022-23 instructional calendar. The Board, district leadership team, and other key stakeholders discussed and analyzed several contributing factors and created a calendar that aligned more with the E2CCB instructional calendar and other schools throughout the county. The primary change is the addition of a February break and an adjustment to the April break.
Some Calendar Adjustment Contributing Factors:
- Enables our district to continue to move forward with shared/collaborative instructional programming opportunities for Chautauqua Lake students and students from neighboring school districts and schools throughout our region
- Aligns with BOCES programs (CTE, Alt Ed, Special Ed) and other partner school districts for shared services and cost-saving transportation agreements. Chautauqua Lake BOCES Program students gain a full week of instruction
- Provides the New York State required 180 student days and allows us to maintain the same number of vacation days
- Allows for more instructional preparation after the April break prior to the spring 3-8 state assessments
- Allows extra time to prepare for AP exams which are administered in the first weeks of May
- Sports programs/games and practices for winter and spring teams would align with the rest of Section VI
We recognize that there are counterpoints to the calendar adjustment. However, the District felt strongly that these changes would ultimately be in the best interest of our students. Thank you for your understanding and support. We look forward to a great 2022-23 school year.
