The Annual School Budget "Public Hearing" will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at 6:00 pm in the Secondary Library, Chautauqua Lake Central School, 100 North Erie Street, Mayville, NY. At this time, the proposed budget for the 2022-2023 school year will be presented and reviewed. Those who would like to attend this hearing are asked to register by noon on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, by calling the District Office at 716-753-5808.
The "Annual District Meeting and Election" will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, in the Lobby at the Main Entrance, Chautauqua Lake Central School, 100 North Erie Street, Mayville, NY. Voting hours will be from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm. Voter parking spaces will be reserved in the parking area during the hours of the vote.
At the election, district residents will be voting on the following items:
- Voting for School Board Members: Two “three-year term” board seats will be filled this year. Candidates who have filed the required board petition as of the April 18, 2022, deadline in the order they will appear on the ballot are Kenneth Shearer, Jr., Mary Lee Talbot, and Andrea Munsee-Wellman. All candidates are running “at large,” and the two candidates with the highest number of votes shall be declared elected.
- PROPOSITION NO. 1- School Budget for the 2022-2023 School Year. District residents will also be voting on the operating budget of the school district for the 2022-2023 school year. Copies of the proposed budget will be available no later than May 3, 2022, in the District Office.
- PROPOSITION NO. 2 – GENERAL CAPITAL RESERVE FUND
RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Chautauqua Lake Central School District (the “School District”) is hereby authorized and directed to:
(A) establish a reserve fund pursuant to Education Law Section 3651 to be known as the “General Capital Reserve Fund-2022,” for the purpose of financing, in whole or in part, additions, alterations, renovations or other improvements to existing School District’s buildings and facilities, the construction of new buildings or facilities or the acquisition of lands or interests in lands for School District purposes, including the acquisition and installation of machinery, equipment, apparatus or furnishings required for the purposes of such buildings and facilities, and playgrounds, athletic fields, recreation areas, parking areas, roadways, sidewalks and other site improvements connected to such buildings and facilities, with the ultimate amount of such reserve fund not exceeding Seven Million Dollars ($7,000,000) plus any accrued earnings on amounts deposited in such reserve fund, the probable existence of said reserve fund being ten (10) years, but said reserve fund to continue in existence for its stated purpose until liquidated in accordance with Education Law, and the source from which funds shall be obtained for said reserve fund being (i) current and future unappropriated fund balances from the existing General Capital Reserve Fund of the School District, as directed by the Board of Education and (ii) any other appropriations authorized by the voters from time to time; and
(B) transfer to said capital reserve fund the entire balance on deposit in said School District’s existing General Capital Reserve Fund established pursuant to Education Law Section 3651 pursuant to a proposition approved by the qualified voters of said District on June 19, 1996.
- PROPOSITION NO. 3 – REPAIR RESERVE FUND
RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Chautauqua Lake Central School District (the “District”) is hereby authorized and directed to transfer unassigned general fund balance at the conclusion of the 2021-2022 fiscal year ending June 30, 2022, in the maximum amount of $750,000, or so much thereof as is available for this purpose, into the School District’s Repair Reserve Fund (established on March 23, 2022); and be further authorized to deposit, invest and account for such funds strictly in accordance with General Municipal Law §6-d.

Reminder: At the polls, district voters must affirm residency. A photo identification, such as a driver's license, is preferred.
Applications for Absentee Ballots are available for qualifying district residents. A district voter must request in advance an application for an absentee ballot. The voter must complete the application and state the reason he/she will not be able to appear in person on the date of the district election. The application must be received by the District Clerk at least seven days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the voter will be picking up the ballot in person. Pursuant to the provisions of Education Law, a district voter may vote by absentee ballot if during all the hours of voting on the day of an election he or she will be:
An absentee ballot must reach the office of the District Clerk no later than 5 p.m. on the day of the election. A list of all persons to whom absentee ballots have been issued shall be maintained by the District Clerk and made available for public inspection. Any qualified voter challenging the acceptance of an absentee ballot must file a written statement with the District Clerk or inform the election inspectors on the day of the district election.
