Money Raised for Kids Heart Challenge
Chautauqua Lake Elementary School partnered with the American Heart Association to raise money for the “Kids Heart Challenge.” This school-wide event allows students to learn about kids with special hearts, raise funds for the health of all hearts and promote increased awareness around healthy heart habits. Elementary students raised just over $8,600 dollars in three short weeks. The event was organized by physical education teacher, Cole Gleason who stated--”It was incredible to see the kids and community come together to support this program. We set our original goal of raising $800 and after the first day we had already passed that amount! All the credit goes to the kids and parents. Because of their hard work we were able to raise more than 10 times our original goal!”
In addition to raising monetary donations, 26 students completed Finn’s Mission and in the process learned Hands only CPR and the warning signs of stroke. The elementary production crew also created special features for the morning announcements to promote healthy habits and physical activity among students and their families. Elementary Principal, Megan Lundgren states “This experience allowed our students to feel empowered and also learn a great deal about other children who may be struggling with unique heart conditions and ways that they can keep themselves and family members healthy.” Staff and students plan to make this an annual event and are anxious to set an even higher goal for next year!
