Interested in the future of graduation requirements in New York? You are invited to attend a Blue Ribbon Commission Forum on NYSED's recommendations for graduation measures!
New York State's Blue Ribbon Commission on Graduation Measures was established in November 2019 to review and recommend changes to the state's high school diploma requirements.
The Commission's work was driven by the need to address disparities in educational outcomes, ensure equity, and provide multiple pathways for students to demonstrate their readiness for graduation. The traditional reliance on standardized testing, particularly the Regents Exams, was scrutinized, with the recognition that a one-size-fits-all approach might not serve all students well, particularly those from marginalized communities.
The Commission's recommendations, expected to lead to significant changes in diploma requirements, focus on a more holistic approach to assessing student readiness. The Commission's work reflects a broader shift in education towards personalized learning and equity.
At the forum you will hear these recommendations and have the opportunity to provide feedback. Your voice and perspective are valued in these conversations.
