Hello, this is Ben Spitzer with another brief update on our continued work at CLCS during this coronavirus pandemic. Governor Cuomo has issued yet another Executive Order extending the required school closure through May 15th. As a result, we will continue with our three plans for Child Nutrition, Child Care, and Continuity of Instruction. Per my written parent update this past Saturday, I am calling to update you on our plans for continued instruction.
Given the new extension of school closure and the possibility of another extension beyond that, our administrators and teachers have developed a plan for teaching, progress monitoring, and grading for the remainder of the year.
Tomorrow we will be sending out a mailing to each household containing a letter that outlines the grading process during this period of remote learning. Our grading process prioritizes student equity and gives students multiple opportunities to be successful.
In addition, each Pre-K student will receive learning progress reports the week of May 11th to assist parents in monitoring their child's status with core learning assignments. In order for teachers to complete this progress report, we will have our first collection of student work for certain students next Wednesday, April 29th. Details on work pick up will be forthcoming and parents will be notified by their child's teacher. If your child has been identified to have work materials collected, please place them in a marked envelope or folder outside your door. Any parent who has questions can call their child's main office.
Our primary focus continues to be on serving your children and your families to provide a quality remote school experience in the best way possible. We are thinking of you and we care for you. Now more than ever, home is where the heart is.
Stay well.
