Virtual Backpack Flyer Distribution
September 19, 2023

Welcome to the Chautauqua Lake Central School Virtual Backpack!

Information posted to the Virtual Backpack are posted as a courtesy of Chautauqua Lake families and at the discretion of the Superintendent. Many of these announcements are from community organizations that are not affiliated with Chautauqua Lake Central School and its Board of Education.

To request distribution of a flyer or other announcement, please complete and submit the Flyer Distribution Request Form no later than ten (10) days before the requested date of distribution.

Please note: Information sent home with students in grades Pre-K through Grade 6 is usually sent on Fridays. Occasionally, information is sent home with students in Grades 7 & 8, but we rarely send information home with students in Grades 9-12.

Flyer / Announcement Guidelines

The following guidelines are offered to further clarify the procedures used in conjunction with the Board of Education Policy #3272 to determine whether or not paper flyers and announcements will be sent home with students and/or made available in each school office and/or posted in the building and/or posted on the District's Virtual Backpack. While the guidelines are intended to assist in determining if a flyer is distributed/displayed and an explanation of how this determination was made, the final decision continues to rest with the Superintendent or his/her designee, as there will always be judgement involved in the decision.

  1. All flyers should have student interests and education related outcomes as the primary focus. The flyer should express an obvious connection to the advancement of the District mission and goals.
  2. All requests for distribution should be submitted NO LATER than ten (10) days in advance of the requested date of distribution and must include a completed application form that identifies the rationale for the request and the connection/benefit to school age children. Approved requests will be acted on by each Friday (assuming that school is in session).
  3. Materials for commercial organizations other than official school-business partners will NOT be permitted.
  4. Information and announcements with a community-wide appeal and significant to a portion of the population served will be given priority.
  5. Flyers from school-business partners must focus on the event or activity being promoted and not the business itself.
  6. With the exception of approved fund-raisers, the school district will not approve any flyer that involves solicitation for money or pledges.
  7. Flyer information/requests should not conflict with the public tax supported efforts already in effect.
  8. Flyer information/requests denied for distribution MAY still be posted in the school building and/or on the District's Virtual Backpack, if they are deemed to benefit the larger community.
