Discovery Club
Specialty after-school courses for students in grades k-6. Courses are taught by elementary staff members and span a wide range of topics, from Clay Lab to Karate! Courses typically run for 5-6 weeks on Tuesdays through Thursdays, either in November-December or March-April. Students are able to take the 4:00 late bus home. Courses are of no cost to families.

After-School Study
Students in grades 3-6 are able to receive extra help after-school to receive extra help on homework, or get caught up on missing work. Teachers usually rotate and stay at least one day per week; students are able to take the late bus home at 4:00pm.

Elementary Musical & Select Choir
Each year, 5th and 6th graders are cast in a musical performance. Students rehearse after-school under the direction of our music teacher, Katie Ryan. Last year's performance, "Zombies" occurred around Halloween time and included just over 50 students

The Elementary Select Choir is another after-school opportunity for our musically inclined students. Led once again by Katie Ryan, this group goes beyond the grade level chorus experience that happens during the school day to put together special vocal pieces that showcase their talents.

Elementary Band
5th and 6th grade students are able to participate in instrumental band both through lessons during the school day and full ensemble practices after-school. Thanks to our talented instrumental teacher, Mr. McLain Hinkler, students first start exploring instruments in 4th grade, and are then able to select an instrument in 5th grade. Students perform at choral/instrumental concerts held in our auditorium throughout the school year, and often continue on through middle and high school.

Swim Lessons and Swim & Dive
Lots of opportunities to get into the water here at CLCS!
Saturday swim lessons are offered each year to Chautauqua Lake students. In addition, Open Swim Nights are open to Chautauqua Lake & Ripley families each winter, typically on Monday evenings. For more advanced students in grades 3-6, we offer Swim & Dive Club after-school starting in March.
STEM Wars
Intermediate students participate in the elementary STEM Wars competition, held at the Jamestown Ice Area each May. Students stay after-school to prepare for competitions that involve coding, robotics, engineering and graphic design...just to name a few. Led by Fawn Schuster and Jennifer McPherson, students build upon the skills they learn in our LAB/Makerspace classroom to engage in fun competitions with other area districts.

Battle of the Books
Students in grade 5 participate annually in Chautauqua Institution's Battle of the Books competition. After reading a series of books throughout the school year, students compete against other schools in the region to see which team has the most knowledge of the books they have read. Similarly, 6th graders also engage in a Battle of the Books competition through the Robert H. Jackson Center in Jamestown. Adding in themed costumes makes these events extra exciting for students and staff coaches!
