Even though images, videos and music can be found everywhere on the Internet, many (if not most) are protected by copyright and are not necessarily meant for you to use freely. In fact, all music, video, images, sound and text are protected by copyright unless otherwise noted. 

So if almost everything out there is copyrighted, what is a student with a deadline to do? Use one of the links below to help you find media that is either in the public domain or permits use for educational purposes. Always be sure to read the copyright policy, the FAQs or the About statement for further information on permissible uses. Also, always give credit to the source!

 

Copyright Free Image Use

  • Creative Commons
    • Be sure to search for Creative Commons images by checking the box "I want something I can modify or adapt."
  • Google Images 
    • Type in your search.
    • Select tools on the right hand side.
    • Under usage rights, select "Labeled for noncommercial reuse."
    • Choose what you need for your project or paper.
    • Cite all images you use.
