Students of the Month - Oct. 2019

Students of the Month at Chautauqua Lake Central School, honored for October achievements are Rachel Biekarck, Jackson Janicki, Sydney Hawkins, Alexandra Reyda, Angelina Dros and Olivia Shearer. The student recognition program honors students in grades 7 through 12 whose classroom performance, attitude toward learning, work ethic and extra-curricular activities set them apart. 

Senior Rachel Elizabeth Biekarck is the daughter of Shannon Biekarck of Mayville. History, English and Psychology are the classes she is enjoying the most this year. Rachel competed on the volleyball team through her junior year; as a senior she was inducted into the National Honor Society and continues her work on Student Administration and Sources of Strength. She has earned academic achievement awards in English and History. Rachel plans on attending Chatham University and getting a degree in Journalism. She is also hoping to move out to Colorado. 

Jackson Janicki, son of Jeffrey and Stephanie Janicki of Westfield, is a junior who said he enjoys Civil Engineering, Architecture and Spanish 4 the most this year. Jackson has competed on the High School Academic Bowl team, the soccer team and the Envirothon since he was a freshman. This year he is also a member of the National Honor Society and president of the Interact Club. He consistently is on the high honor roll, and has earned a Slapshot Rotary Award as well as attending the National Student Leadership Conference. After high school, Jackson plans on attending an architecture school and eventually starting his own firm. 

Sophomore Sydney Ryan Hawkins is the daughter of Ryan and Julianne Hawkins of Ripley. When asked what her favorite classes are this year, Syd replied, "All of them." For the past two years she has competed on the High School Academic Bowl team, the Science Olympiad and the Envirothon; she has also been a member of Student Administration, the Language Club, Peer Tutoring, Peer Education and Sources of Strength. This year, she has added the Yearbook, Impact and Interact clubs. Sydney has also won many awards including Academic Excellence in each class as well as second place in New York State for Voice of Democracy as a freshman. After high school, Sydney plans to "figure out what it is I enjoy doing that translates into a viable career. Then, pursue it!"

Alexandra Park Reyda, a freshman, is the daughter of Joseph and Tara Reyda of Mayville. She does not have a favorite class this year, saying that she enjoys all of them. Alex competes on the CLCS volleyball and track teams, and plays clarinet in the band. She has consistently been on the High Honor Roll and has earned Academic Excellence certificates in many classes. After high school, Alex plans to go to college and graduate school to pursue either social justice or the law. 

Eight grader Angelina Dros is the daughter of Jolene and William Quinones of Mayville and Sifredo Dros of Westfield. She enjoys Art and Science the most this year. Angelina participates in the peer mentoring program at school. Angelina's future plans include going to college to further her education. 

Olivia Shearer, a seventh grader, is the daughter of Jennifer and Ken Shearer of Mayville. This year, Olivia is enjoying her Math class the most. An avid tennis player, Olivia competed on the varsity team this year, as a seventh grader. Outside of school, she enjoys drawing, painting and other kinds of art. Her future goals include perhaps starting her own business. 

Teacher Tara Reyda coordinates the Secondary school Student of the Month recognition program with the help of a selection committee, which includes teachers Michelle Rowe and Joyce Walzer.
