This is Superintendent Ben Spitzer hoping this message finds that you and your family are doing well and are safe during this time of extended social distancing. As I did last week, I want to provide you with a quick update regarding the ongoing work to fulfill our mission to implement plans in response to the coronavirus. As you know by now, the Governor has extended the time schools are to remain closed. We are now closed for students from April 1 to April 14. As part of the Governor's Executive Order, we must continue to provide meals to students, to make child care available to essential workers and to continue with remote instruction each weekday of this time period.

First, our meal plan we are presently providing meals to over 260 students whose parents have requested meals. These meals are prepared by staff in the morning and delivered via our transportation runs. Delivery continues Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. - 12 noon. Please note there will be no Friday runs this coming week. Thursday's delivery will include meals for Thursday through Sunday. Please continue to leave containers or bags outside your door for meal drop off. Also, please keep all pets inside during meal drop off. Any meal requests, changes, or concerns can be directed to (716) 753-5842.

As for childcare, we continue to partner with the Chautauqua Lake Child Care Center. If you (or somebody you know) is in need of child care during this time, please call (716) 753-5851 for more information. Financial assistance is available. In addition, for both Child Nutrition and Child Care, you can visit our website at www.clake.org and visit our Coronavirus Information page.

Lastly, with respect to our plan for continuity of instruction, as required by the Governor, CLCS has planned for and provided, instructional materials for the time period April 1 through April 14. Teachers will make instruction available each week day of this time period including Friday, April 10. That being said, we are well aware that this remote learning experience has been stressful for both students and their parents. Our instructional staff have been told to calibrate their pace of instruction according to each student's needs and abilities.

We encourage you to adjust your child's learning experience during this time in a manner that reduces stress and affords some time to rest. Be kind to yourself. Be kind to each other.

In closing, our school district continues to stand proud and stand beside you. In this unprecedented time, we are socially distanced together. We encourage you to stay home, be safe and practice peace over panic. CLCS loves you.

Stay well
