School Safety Tip Line

To increase information sharing and enhance school safety, Chautauqua Lake Central School has established a School Safety Tip Line.  This line is available for the sole purpose of leaving recorded messages for school staff about concerns regarding school safety.

The tip line number, (716) 753-5803, is listed on the Telephone Directory under the Contact Info heading above, on the back of the District Calendar, and on the back cover of each issue of the district newsletter, Navigator. Windstream customers may call toll-free: (716) 789-4195, ext. 5803.

The tip line uses voicemail technology to record a message of up to two (2) minutes in length. Messages are checked daily.  For security reasons, the tip line may identify the telephone number from which the call is placed.

Students, staff, and community members are invited to call with tips that might assist in promoting school safety.

To share information of an urgent nature, please call directly to a school office and/or the local authorities.

How does the District plan for school safety and emergency management?

Chautauqua Lake Central School has developed an updates annually, a comprehensive safety plan addressing crisis intervention, emergency response and management. It includes specific procedures to follow for each anticipated emergency. Teamwork with law enforcement officials is crucial to our safety plans. We have a district-wide Safety Committee that includes school personnel, community members and law enforcement. Equally important is the district's proactive approach to safety on many levels, including a broad-based anti-bullying campaign and a rigorous Code of Conduct for students, staff and visitors. These measures apply in the classroom and beyond: on buses, at extracurricular activities and at all school functions, even if they take place off the school grounds.

How does CLCS manage and control access to the school building?

During school hours, we restrict entrance and exit to our school. Just as staff members must wear identification badges, parents and others visiting the school facility must stop at the office and obtain a visitor badge, then return it to the office when they leave the building. All doors are locked and only opened once an office attendance has determined the purpose of the visit.

When and where are cameras and monitors used?

We use camera surveillance in many areas of the building and grounds to allow us the ability to capture and record inappropriate and suspicious behavior. During the school day, video monitors allow receptionists to view and speak with visitors before they enter the building. The district has collaborated with emergency responders to permit camera access in the event on an emergency.

How does Chautauqua Lake Central School handle weapons at school?

In our school, we take the issue of weapons extremely seriously. Any issues with weapons are dealt with swiftly and severely. We need the assistance of parents to ensure that children do not have access to firearms or other weapons.

What should I do if I know that a violent incident has occurred or is threatened?

Our district is in full compliance with state-required violent incident reporting. We track violent incidents and other inappropriate behaviors. Please report any threats, suspicious activity or other safety concerns to any school office or directly to the Superintendent's office. In addition, we have a School Safety Tip Line, (716) 753-5803, to receive recorded messages that are not urgent in nature.

Who is responsible for school safety?

The safety of our students remains of the utmost importance at Chautauqua Lake Central School District. Our district staff members all work diligently to maintain a safe and secure school and facility, but school safety is everyone's responsibility.

  • During the school day, parents and other guests help ensure school safety by registering in a school office when they enter the building, displaying a visitor badge and returning the badge to the office when they leave.
  • Students and staff must not open the doors to anyone waiting to enter the building, even if they know that person. Help us maintain our established security procedures by waiting for assigned staff to open the doors using the buzzer system.
  • Our District Safety Committee meets bimonthly to address all matters of safety. They particularly concentrate on emergency management and crisis prevention. The committee includes teachers, administrators, a school board member, key staff members and law enforcement.

Who should I contact with school safety concerns?

If you have questions about school safety, please contact your child's school principal or the Superintendent. Thank you for your support and assistance. Please be assured that we have high expectations for school safety, and we will continue to take all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our students.
