PBIS House Flags

Clear, consistent expectations for appropriate student behavior are now in use at all grade levels and in all school settings, with special rewards for positive behaviors.

The Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) team has developed a school-wide “behavior matrix” outlining consistent expectations and detailing what those behaviors look like in each setting. In addition to general rules for all locations, specific expectations are listed for classrooms, the cafeteria, playground, corridors, restrooms, school buses, assemblies and during fire drills.  Posters in many locations show the behaviors appropriate to that area.

For example, the expectations during assemblies, with the basic “T-Bird Traits” are:

Be Safe

  • Stay seated
  • Body still
  • Wait for signals to arrive or dismiss

Be Responsible

  • Be on time
  • Take care of personal needs before the assembly starts
  • Keep hands & feet to yourself

Be Respectful

  • Give the speaker “5” (eyes, ears, lips, hands, feet)
  • Applaud when appropriate
  • Ask appropriate questions

Teachers watch for positive behaviors and present students with “T-Bird Traits” tickets, which can be redeemed for a variety of prizes or special opportunities and experiences.  In the elementary grades, students may exchange their tickets for prizes once each month.  In the secondary school, students may select from a large menu of prizes or special experiences.
