Academic Intervention Services (AIS)

The New York State Department of Education mandates Academic Intervention Services (AIS) for all students who perform below proficiency (Levels 1 or 2) on State Exams in English/Language Arts and Mathematics. New York State has significantly increased the expectation of student performance on these state assessments. Students who previously did not qualify for AIS services may now be eligible. Parents will receive a Parent Report Card showing their child's results, and it may indicate a need for AIS services.

The district offers a variety of academic and support services to meet the instructional needs of our students.  The goal is to use all of our available AIS resources to support each child in his or her efforts to be successful in meeting the New York State Learning Standards and graduation requirements.

At the beginning of the school year, parents will receive a second mailing that will include the Parent Report Card and an Academic Intervention Services Summary Report, which is customized to give instructional and/or other types of assistance to support each child. A thorough review of each child's daily classroom performance, standardized and/or diagnostic testing results (including State testing) and report card information will be ongoing as we develop each child's services.

We will try to meet the needs of all learners in our school with the least amount of interruption to their routine. Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

After School Help Lab

Grades 5 & 6

One of the most important goals of Chautauqua Lake Central School is to assist students in achieving academic success. To help reach this goal, After-School Help Lab is held on most Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 4  p.m. Through this program students in Grades 5 and 6 get extra help from their classroom teachers, get caught up on homework assignments, and prepare for tests. Students failing two or more courses are required to stay, but Help Lab should not be viewed as a punishment, rather a service that will help students be successful in their academic program. Students who are required to stay, but choose not to stay, risk losing the privilege of attending after school activities such as dances, clubs and athletic events.

A 4 p.m. late bus is available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for those students who need transportation after Help Lab or other activities.  Students who need to ride the late bus on a particular day must sign up by noon in the Student Services Office.
