Response to Intervention at Chautauqua Lake Central School District is a process where high quality instruction and research-based interventions are provided to students through a tiered delivery system. Every student benefits from appropriate instruction and universal screening within the regular education classroom. Students who do not make satisfactory progress in their levels of performance may receive increasingly intensive levels of targeted intervention.

Tier 1

Instruction is provided in the regular education classroom with classroom-based intervention efforts as needed. Regular screening of student progress reveals at-risk students.

Tier 2

The classroom teacher provides additional instruction or an expert works with students in small groups (8 or less students) to target and remediate specific skills. Students receiving Tier 2 interventions continue to fully participate in Tier 1 instruction. Tier 2 interventions are in addition to core instruction on Tier 1.

Tier 3

If skill gaps persist and/or worsen, specialists may work with students in smaller groupings (5 or less students). Tier 3 interventions are more specific, intense and occur for a longer duration. Students participating in Tier 3 interventions continue to fully participate in Tier 1 instruction. Tier 3 interventions are in addition to core instruction on Tier 1. Tier 3 interventions will replace Tier 2 interventions so as not to interfere with student participation in other core academic areas.
